“L´equivoco stravagante” (The funny misunderstanding), a comic opera with music of Gioaccino Rossini and libretto of Gaetano Gasbarri, was premiered in Corso Theatre in Bolonia on 26th October 1811. It was the second composition of Rossini that came to the stage where the show just lasted three representations, although it was a great success.
The funny and naughty misundertandings caused by the false belief that the main female character is a eunuch stretched the censorships´ patience, which was never excessive, and the performance was prohibited. Rossini has included parts of this opera in later works to enjoy and save them from the oblivion.
More than two hundreds years later it comes, with an excellent cast and the participation of Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa BOS and Rossini Chorus directed by Speranza Scappucci , the young Roman bandleader with a successful career as pianist, who has reached a place between the most versatile and dynamic new opera directors.
The Arriaga Theatre production, original from Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, is directed by the stage director Emilio Sagi and the critic has highlighted the capacity of “bring brilliant ideas, in line with the spirit of the work, theatrical and musical, streghthen its meaning and bringing it closer to the present-day audience”.

Mozart y lo ancestral

Gabriel Erkoreka completó en Zuhaitz uno de sus mejores trabajos, imbricando la modernidad de su lenguaje con las tradiciones, la naturaleza y lo ancestral, y contando para ello con la complicidad imprescindible de los músicos de Kalakan. Mozart encontró un paréntesis de felicidad en su breve estancia en Linz, a la que dedicó una de sus más deslumbrantes sinfonías. Y el carácter de serena belleza del programa se completa con Ravel y su evocación de la infancia.

Irrumpe el romanticismo

Un programa redondo que atiende al gran repertorio del siglo XIX. Dos obras esenciales para entender la revolución del romanticismo. Schubert exploró con maestría el gran formato en la última de sus sinfonías, una obra que parece anticipar la grandeza de Bruckner, y Beethoven se aventuró en las turbulencias emocionales en su rotundo concierto en do menor, que escucharemos en la interpretación del reciente ganador del Concurso de piano María Canals.

Con la tercera parte, El Retorno del Rey, finalizamos el ciclo dedicado a una de las cumbres en la simbiosis entre música y cine, merecedora de 11 premios Oscar, incluido el de mejor banda sonora para Howard Shore. De nuevo la experiencia de la proyección íntegra de la película con la partitura original interpretada por la BOS y las voces de la Sociedad Coral de Bilbao.
